Do You Have the Intention to Succeed?
Peak performance is based as much, if not more, on our intentions as it is on our talent, wealth or connections. If we're able to integrate our behaviors so they support our intentions, we can move toward our goals regardless of the obstacles that attempt to break our stride.
To see if your behaviors and beliefs support your intentions for success, complete this brief assessment by marking the box for each statement as it relates to you. Check "yes" if the statement is almost always true. Check "no" if the statement is sometimes true, rarely true, if you don't know the answer or if you need to think about it for more than a few seconds.
1) My actions support the goals I want to achieve.
2) I accept responsibility for my choices and their consequences and do not blame other people or circumstances for what's wrong about my life.
3) I do not hesitate to take the actions that will lead me closer to my dreams.
4) I have no regrets.
5) I live life on my own terms.
6) My family and friends know what is important to me and support those endeavors.
7) I have confidence in my abilities.
8) I know that what I get out of life depends on the energy and attitude I put into it.
9) I have many constructive places to turn for comfort or motivation (people, hobbies, exercise, etc.)
10) I feel complete.
Tally your total "yes" score. If your total is eight or higher, you likely feel a sense of personal responsibility and are taking the actions that will lead you closer toward your goals. You have high confidence, motivation and a good support system that will serve you well.
If you scored between five and eight, you have a good basis for peak performance. A few targeted behavior changes will help you set the stage for success.
If you scored below five, you must take control and hold yourself accountable for the life you desire. Start by setting small goals that will pave the way for bigger changes down the road.
